Earth Species Evolved From: n/a - there is no species remotely like this on Earth.

The seraph species is a very ancient one. Perhaps even much older then the spaceborn. They are silicon based life forms, which is how that survive in the harshness of space. Space travellers see these gentle giants as being the "holy grail" of good luck, regarding the mere glimpse of one to bring great fortune and safe travels to anyone lucky enough to see one.

Physical Appearance

There are many different descriptions for these species. Some of them describe them as "angels", otheres call them "space moths", others still claim that they look like the cross between a manta ray and an insect.

A fully grown seraph is about 150 feet from "nose" to tailtip. Over 3/4 of that length is the tail. Their body shape is like that of a ray, with flipper-like wings coming out of each side. Their back is lined with a hard plating.

A seraph has translucent skin with bioluminescent lights along the back and wings. Their unblinking eyes are usually purple, but a rare few (less then 2%) have gold or pink eyes. This is a rare color mutation.

The tail is long and splits into three parts halfway down.

A seraph moves through space by pushing air out through a cavity in the body... they are pretty much rocket powered.

Physical And Mental Attributes

  • They actually have amazingly decent eyesight for a space dwelling species. They can see basic shapes and colors.
  • They have no natural predators and most sentients don't want to harm them, so they have no concept of fighting. They don't really even have natural weapons. However, if they are fired apon by a space ship, then they can lash out with their tail with enough force to crack the hull of a starcraft.
  • Their front whiskers are highly developed sensory organs. If they are curious about an object, they will wrap their sensors around the object to "feel" it.
  • If a serpah is lucky enough to be in close proximity to another seraph, they will also use their sensors to show affection to each other.
  • They have no mouths and make no vocal sounds.
  • The lights on their backs and wings are actually stores of energy absorbed from stars. The more energy that is left, the more brightly the lights glow.
  • The transluscent skin and lights often make many who see them mistake them for star formations.
  • Their jet propulsion system is very similar to that of a chambered nautilus.
  • It was once believed that seraphs only posessed an insect like intelligence, however they show a natural curiosity towards sentients that prove that they are actually smarter then that.
  • The space-born name for this species is "seratores", a word that means both "angel" and "ghost" in the spaceborn language.
  • They like to ride in the wake of passing spaceships because they like the energy given off by it. This is why they can be found throughout the galaxy. However, they are most commonly seen around the teraj starfield.
  • Seraphs can ONLY survive in space. They would die almost instantly in the atmosphere of a planet.
  • Serpahs CAN NOT be pets. Period.

Sex and Reproduction

Because a seraph can go an entire lifetime without seeing another one of it's kind, they are hermaphroditic and can fertilize their own eggs. A seraph will lay 3-4 eggs in their lifetime. The egg itself is about 3 feet in diameter and transluscent. The baby seraph can clearly be seen inside.

When hatched, they are at a larva stage. Seraph larvae are about 5 feet long and wingless. They lights on their back are starting to show, but are very dim.

Like a tadpole, a seraphs appendages will start to grow as they reach adulthood.

Diet

They do not "eat", but rather absorb the energies from nearby stars. They are literally solar powered.
